For anyone interested in history it is interesting to know that local government in one form or another in England and Wales, dates back to Saxon times and the only way of granting local government to a locality was by Royal Charter.

The County Councils were first formed in 1888 and District and Parish Councils were created in 1894. I feel privileged to be part of that history.

It can be confusing for the general public to know who to approach if they have a ‘Council problem’. The District Council is where you seek help for local services such as housing, refuse collection, leisure centres and environmental health. The role of the County Council, on the other hand, is to provide services such as education, libraries, social services, road maintenance and trading standards.
